Farming Practices

At Geelong Region Olives we believe that the source of creating a healthy and great tasting oil comes from nurturing the land that we are so fortunate to steward. We take a holistic approach to naturally improving the soil and continually striving to nurture nature.

Current Practices Include

✹ Rotational sheep grazing to manage grass and naturally fertilise trees.

✹ Tree pruning’s are mulched then composted and later spread under trees, returning organic matter back to the soil.

✹ Spraying organic liquid compost to both foliage and ground to improve soil biology & fungi.

✹ Areas of native plantings to improve biodiversity.

✹ During the cold press processing the waste olive pulp is turned into compost on site and the pips are used for fuel to run the processing machinery.

✹ Oil storage facility and office are run off Solar energy and captured rain water

✹ We run a zero waste refill system with all the restaurants we provide oil to.

✹ Customer refill options at market stalls.

The Future

We will continue to use proven methods of sustainable farming whilst exploring new technology and ways to produce the healthiest and highest quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil we can.

Currently we are working on a bio char system for our larger pruning’s, direct sowing perennial grasses and green manures to improve biodiversity and soil health and making more targeted organic composts to improve the health and yield of the trees.
